GOLD COAST INDOOR SOCCER – FUTSAL

QUEENSLAND STATE FUTSAL CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
NOVEMBER 10, 11 & 12TH 2006

This year was the first time in 6 years that the Gold Coast was represented at a state wide tournament. Teams from The Gold Coast, Brisbane, Ipswich, Morayfield’s and Bayside all entered.
Three teams from the Gold Coast entered the State Titles held at the Sleeman Centre in Chandler from the 10-12th October. Random (Tuesday Bond), Easy Company (Wednesday Carrara) and Bonito Varsity (Wednesday Carrara) entered as Bello Mio.

Random Started with a great 3-0 win over Golden Eggs from Morayfield’s. Both Bello Mio and Easy Company started slowly against tuff opposition. The second round of matched pitted two Gold Coast teams, Easy Company and Bello Mio, with Easy Company coming out victorious with a hard fought 2-1 win. The Winning goal coming in the last few minutes of play. Random lost their second and third round matches to the two semi-finalists from their respective group. Random received high praise from their opponents complementing them on their tenacious play and their never say die attitude.

Bello Mio’s third match was against a very strong side from Morayfield’s, a team which represented Queensland in an international tournament in New Zealand earlier in the year. The Bello Mio team stuck to their guns and outplayed their more fancied opponents for most of the game. One could see that the Morayfield team was getting frustrated with superb goalkeeping and the Bello Mio players chasing and blocking everything their opponents throw at them. The winning goal came against the run of play, with Bello Mio losing the ball whilst attacking their opponent’s goal. After a quick break down the left field the Morayfield’s player’s shot was saved by good goalkeeping, however after a goal mouth scramble the ball ended up in Bello Mio goal, crashing the Bello Mio team out of semi-finals contention.

Easy Company lost their third match of the day to the eventual winners of the tournament from Bayside; they were outplayed but represented the Gold Coast with pride and distinction.
The last round of competition was the best for the Gold Coast teams with Random winning against an Ipswich side needing the points to proceed the semi-finals. Bello Mio lost to the runners up of the tournament, and scoring 4 goals against the Bayside team who had only let in 2 goals in their previous 2 games.
On the Sunday Easy Company played against the Bayside team that had narrowly win 7-4 against Bello Mio the day before. Easy Company started strong and stayed with their opponents all game and eventually scoring on the final whistle to force a 9-9 draw.
Even though none of the Gold Coast teams made the Semi-finals, I could not be more proud and happier on the way the boys looked, played and represented your club.
